In terms of religion, there were a lot of religious traditions carried out in Ancient Mesopotamia that may seem strange to us now. Examples of this are feeding the gods, performing exorcisms and other ritual known to heal the dying or eliminate evil forces. These things may seem illogical, but we still do similar things today - such as the eucharist and baptisms.
2)
We still ritualistically record the same things the Mesopotamians used to, such as purchase and selling history, and how many people have born and died. This information is just as useful to us now as it was to the Ancient Mesopotamians. It is important because in order to pay tax and be a good citizen you need to know how much tax to pay. Also, the government needs to know about population increases and decreases so that the can plan what they need to build and transform.
3)
Another similarity between the two ages is the way in which we communicate God's words. Both modern society and Ancient Mesopotamia have God's wishes told to us by our priests and priestesses. We are told how to act and how to speak to people, etc.. It was the same thousands of years ago.

Because of the fact that kings and empires are not as much of a problem in this day and age, language does not fluctuate along with the population. Our race is quite settled, and we are less nomadic therefore when a ruler dies another one steps up. Though the new ruler of our modern society may not have the same principles as the last, it is unlikely that the language we speak will change. This is different to in Ancient Mesopotamia because then, all kings were the rulers of empires, not countries. They all spoke different languages and when they were in charge, everyone is forced to speak their language.
2)
In Ancient Mesopotamia, you had a far better chance at a good job if you were a man. If you were a woman, it is unlikely you will be anything of importance - e.g. a scribe or priestess. Nowadays, we are far less sexist though there is still slight favouritism towards men in a job hiring situation, in my opinion. I think us girls are very lucky to be born in this age, getting a fair chance at our ambitions.
3)
As you know, in today's society writing is a very common thing and almost everybody is taught how to do it. However, thousands of years ago this was not the case. Writing was preserved for very important people in Ancient Mesopotamia - it wasn't taught to just anybody.
